Technical Description

The is an accessory for the engine test stands and the associated engines. The unit can be used to measure the exhaust gas composition (CO, CO2, HC, O2), the excess air factor λ and the oil temperature in the engine. The menu-based display on the unit is used for calibration, operation and to display the measured data. Interfaces allow it to be connected to a PC or external printer. The measuring accuracy complies with OIML Class 1 (Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale) and meets the requirements of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (German national metrology institute; PTB).

Technical Description

In conjunction with the test stand, the engine makes up a complete engine test stand.

Major technical modifications have been made to a standard water-cooled single cylinder engine to allow demanding issues in engine technology to be investigated by experiment. The key feature is that the cylinder has been modified so that its height can be adjusted along with that of the cylinder head. This allows the compression ratio to be adjusted over a wide range.

The engine can be operated as an external ignition petrol engine or an auto-ignition diesel engine. The mode of operation can be changed by a few simple conversion steps.

In petrol engine mode, it is also possible to change the ignition point and the composition of the fuel/air mixture so that the influence of these factors on the characteristic curves and values can be investigated experimentally.

The engine is securely mounted on a base plate. This unit is fitted in the test bed on the test stand and bolted into place. It is connected to the brake unit using an elastic claw coupling. The engine is fitted with sensors that measure temperatures and the oil pressure. The sensors are connected to the test bed control cabinet. Technical Description

The air-cooled two-stroke engine with reverse scavenging is securely mounted on a base plate. This unit is fitted in the test stand and bolted into place. Guides are provided to allow easy and precise alignment of the engine. It is connected to the brake unit using an elastic claw coupling. The engine is set up so that the intake pressure can be measured. It also contains a sensor to measure the exhaust gas temperature, which is connected to the control cabinet. Technical Description

The is core component of a modular series of equipment that allows experiments to be performed on a variety of engines and machines, e.g. pumps, turbines or combustion engines. The main function of to provide the required drive or braking power to perform experiments on the selected engine or machine. This power is generated by an air-cooled asynchronous motor with a frequency converter. The energy that is created when braking in generator mode is converted into heat by a load resistor. The drive or braking torque can be precisely adjusted. It is measured indirectly using a force transducer. For this purpose, the asynchronous motor is mounted in floating bearings. A carriage on which the “engine and force transducer” unit can be moved acts as a tensioning device for the V-belt.

All measuring signals are present in electrical form and can be stored and processed using the PC data acquisition function supplied for the engine or machine.
