Only a supply of cold water and a drain are required for operation. For the investigations on the pipes, 10 different pipe sections are provided in which measuring connections with annular chambers are incorporated. The measuring connections are connected to the corresponding measuring equipment using hoses. The pipes can be individually selected for the experiments using connecting hoses. For pressure measurements, a double manometer, manometer panel and a battery operated electronic differential pressure measuring unit are provided. The test stand for investigating losses in pipes is a complete, closed experimental set-up. Due to the installation of the set-up on a laboratory trolley and the closed water circuit with supply tank and pump, the test stand is flexible in use. Eight different pipe sections are provided for the investigations, these are equipped with annular chambers with measuring connections for pressure measurements. The pipes can be individually selected for the investigations using ball-cocks. Double tube manometers are provided for pressure measurements along with a battery-operated electronic differential pressure gauge. The flow rate is indicated on a variable-area flow meter. The principle of operation of this unit is the generation of a angular frequency on a paddle wheel. The flow is deflected by a nozzle onto the paddle wheel, there the kinetic energy is converted into angular motion. The angular frequency is transmitted to an analysis unit, without contact, by a ring magnet and converted there into an analogue voltage signal. This voltage signal corresponds to the actual flow rate and is displayed on a digital display. The operating area of the unit is fitted with a transparent cover and as a result can be clearly seen.
The measuring orifice with electronic differential pressure transmitter is used for applications in which local indication of the measured flow rate is insufficient and the signal is to be transmitted externally. It is then possible, e.g. to directly connect recorders, displays in a measuring centre. The measuring orifice works, as do other orifice measuring devices, in accordance with Bernoulli and the law of continuity. The measurement transducer utilises the principle of a change in capacitance caused by the differential pressure present, this is then converted into a scaled output signal.
